Sports Live Streaming OTT Case Study: SPEED Channel.JP Launches Multi-Device Streaming Service in Two Months

Launching a Keirin-Focused OTT Service Across Web, Mobile, and TV Apps in Approximately Two Months
SPEED Channel, a long-established and highly trusted specialist channel for keirin racing fans, needed to launch a new dedicated OTT streaming service to continue delivering its content directly to viewers.
With the launch of SPEED Channel.JP, the company created a digital viewing environment where users can watch high-demand live keirin broadcasts as well as on-demand programs, including documentaries, information programs, variety shows, and race-related content, from PCs, smartphones, and TV apps.
By leveraging the white-label OTT platform provided by OTTclouds, SPEED Channel was able to build and launch its own OTT service with live streaming, VOD, membership management, free trial support, monthly subscription billing, and multi-device app support in approximately two months from the start of development.

Project Background and Challenges
SPEED Channel had previously distributed its keirin-focused content through an external streaming platform. However, due to the termination of the existing streaming service, the company needed to build its own OTT streaming infrastructure within a limited timeframe so that viewers could continue enjoying both live broadcasts and VOD content without interruption.
This project required more than simply delivering video online. SPEED Channel needed a complete sports live streaming OTT service that could support several critical requirements at the same time:
- A live streaming infrastructure suitable for keirin race broadcasts
- Management of approximately 600 VOD assets
- Multi-device support across PC, smartphones, and TV apps
- Membership and payment design that could transition users from a free viewing period to a monthly subscription model
- Stable streaming infrastructure close to broadcast-level quality
- A user experience that existing viewers could understand easily
For keirin content, the stability of live streaming and the speed at which playback starts are especially important. In addition, the previous service left room for improvement in terms of user navigation, making it essential to design a clearer path to the content viewers wanted to watch.
For this reason, the new service placed strong emphasis on helping users quickly access the live races and programs they wanted. The UX design also included features tailored to keirin fans, such as timeline displays that allow viewers to understand upcoming programs while watching live content.

Solutions Provided by OTTclouds
1. Building a White-Label OTT Service
OTTclouds provided the white-label foundation used to build a dedicated OTT service under the SPEED Channel.JP brand.
The design, logo placement, color scheme, content navigation, and live viewing flow were customized to match the SPEED Channel brand and create an intuitive user interface for keirin fans.
Rather than forcing users to adapt to a generic streaming interface, the service was designed around how SPEED Channel viewers actually search for, access, and watch live and on-demand content.
2. Building the Live Streaming Infrastructure
A live streaming infrastructure was built using AWS MediaLive, converting live video feeds into HLS for delivery across Web, mobile apps, and TV apps.
Direct Connect was used to transmit video from the broadcast facility side to the AWS environment. OTTclouds handled the receiving configuration on AWS, connection design, and integration settings with MediaLive.
This made it possible to ingest live broadcast signals into the OTTclouds streaming infrastructure and distribute them to multiple device types using multi-bitrate streaming.
As a result, SPEED Channel gained a stable technical foundation for delivering live keirin content to users across different viewing environments.

3. Migrating and Encoding Approximately 600 VOD Assets
To migrate existing VOD assets to the new service, approximately 600 videos were encoded and prepared for distribution. This also included organizing the metadata and thumbnails required for content management.
The VOD library was structured by category and program, making it easier for users to discover and access the content they were looking for.
This preparation allowed SPEED Channel.JP to offer a rich on-demand content experience from the time of launch, rather than starting with a limited catalog.
4. Designing Membership and Billing Flows from Free Viewing to Monthly Subscription
At launch, SPEED Channel.JP offered a free viewing period to encourage user registration and allow viewers to experience the service first.
OTTclouds supported the design of the membership management, subscription guidance, and viewing entitlement flows so that users could naturally transition from the free viewing period to a monthly paid subscription.
This structure helped create a clear path from initial service trial to long-term paid usage, while also giving users enough time to understand the value of the new OTT service.
5. Multi-Device Support Across Web, Mobile, and TV Apps
SPEED Channel.JP was launched with support for Web, iOS, Android, Android TV, and Fire TV, allowing users to watch content from the device that best fits their viewing situation.
The service supports both casual viewing on smartphones and more immersive viewing on large TV screens.
By offering a consistent viewing experience across multiple platforms, SPEED Channel was able to serve a wider range of user preferences while maintaining a unified service experience.
Results
Simultaneous Launch Across Web, Mobile, and TV Apps in Approximately Two Months
From the start of development, the OTT service was launched in approximately two months across Web, iOS, Android, Android TV, and Fire TV.
The service was officially released on March 31, 2026, allowing SPEED Channel to continue serving its audience through its own OTT platform.
Short-Term Launch at a Realistic Cost
Building a multi-device OTT service from scratch typically requires a long development timeline and significant investment.
By using the existing OTTclouds platform, SPEED Channel was able to reduce both development time and cost while still launching a service that included live streaming, VOD, membership management, billing, and multi-device applications.
This approach made it possible to build a fully owned OTT service within a realistic budget and timeline.
Stable Live Streaming Environment Supporting Five Channels
The OTTclouds live streaming infrastructure enabled SPEED Channel to distribute five live channels across Web, mobile apps, and TV apps.
Users can smoothly access live video from each supported device, enabling SPEED Channel.JP to deliver the real-time viewing experience expected from a specialist keirin channel.
For sports live streaming OTT services, reliability and accessibility are critical. This project provided SPEED Channel with a foundation capable of supporting real-time content delivery across multiple screens.

Approximately 600 VOD Assets Ready from Launch
A large volume of VOD content was encoded and organized within a short period of time. Metadata and thumbnails were also prepared to support content discovery and management.
As a result, SPEED Channel.JP was able to provide users with a substantial on-demand content library from the moment the service went live.
This helped improve the overall value of the service beyond live broadcasts, giving users more reasons to return and engage with the platform.
Conclusion
The SPEED Channel.JP project is a strong example of how a media company can launch its own sports live streaming OTT service under strict time constraints following the termination of an existing streaming platform.
By using OTTclouds, SPEED Channel was able to provide live streaming, VOD, membership management, subscription billing, Web access, mobile apps, and TV apps as an integrated OTT service.
The project’s success was not only the result of using a ready-made OTT platform. It also depended on the ability of all stakeholders to work as one team while moving multiple tasks forward in parallel, including VOD preparation, metadata organization, live streaming verification, app review processes, infrastructure connectivity, and promotional preparation.
OTTclouds is especially suitable for companies that want to:
